Barbados is a medium-sized island that is 21 miles long by 14 miles wide, located in the far South-Eastern corner of the Caribbean; it's semi-tropical with an average temp of 30ºC with only nominal seasonal variations. Prevailing trade winds blow steadily so that although it is bright and sunny, it isn't unbearably hot. Rain usually comes in short showers and is usually followed quickly by sunny skies and within minutes everything will be dry. The name Barbados is derived from the Portuguese word Los Babados and means “the bearded ones” which most believe to be a reference to the many bearded fig trees on the island. With this said Barbados is famed for its miles of beautiful beaches, so this is a natural choice of wedding venues some other venues are: Churches, Gardens, Catamaran cruises, underwater weddings, Great Houses and Villas. Beach weddings in Barbados regularly take place at Foul Bay and Bottom Bay. Andromeda Gardens Built in 1635 this historic sugar plantation house sits in the lush valley of Sweet Bottom. It is an oasis of tropical gardens surrounded by 500 hundred acres of sugar cane. There are some 70 religions represented on the island, and most of them are happy to welcome visitors who would like to marry provided you comply with certain religious wedding requirements first. The most popular churches to hosts visitor weddings are the many Anglican and Roman Catholic churches throughout the island. St. James Anglican Church is a common choice amongst visitors. This is the oldest Anglican Church on the island with its beautiful coral stone architecture. It is also perfectly located in the city of Holetown near to most of the hotels along the west coast. *Civil ceremonies are conducted by a magistrate from the district court of the parish where your wedding venue is located.
We the West Indian International Tours (WIIT) team are here to cater to your every need; here’s a list of items that are required to wed in Barbados. It is very easy to get married in Barbados as there is no required waiting period or minimum length of stay. Application for a marriage license must be made by both parties in person at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital city Bridgetown. You will require: · Valid passports. · If either party was married previously and widowed, a certified copy of the marriage certificate and death certificate in respect of the deceased spouse. · If either party was divorced, an original Decree Absolute OR certified copy of the Final Judgments, NOT the Decree Nisi. · All documents not in English must be accompanied by a translation certified by an authorized Notary Public (NOT a Justice of the Peace). · A letter from the marriage officer who has agreed to perform the marriage ceremony (provided by Tropical Weddings). · Persons under the age of sixteen (16) cannot be legally married in Barbados. For persons between the ages of sixteen (16) and eighteen (18), the consent of both parents must be obtained and both parents must be present at the time of the application. · Original deed poll if either party has had a name change. · Persons eighteen (18) years and older do not require parental consent.
