The Caribbean is a buzz with the news of its latest carrier which proposes to be the region’s first low-cost airline. REDjet, based in Barbados and founded by a father and son team Ian and Robbie Burns, is expected to have commercial flights starting from as low as USD 9.99, before taxes. With a fleet of two MD-82s and four planned destinations; Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and Guyana, REDjet is expected to give the other regional carriers LIAT and Caribbean Airways stiff competition and hopes to stimulate inter-regional travel like never before.

The 42 all Barbadian cabin-crew have already been trained to the highest standards both in Barbados and at the world renowned PANAM International Flight Academy in Florida, USA in preparation for the official launch, set to be held in early January. Indeed, the only hold-up to cheaper inter-regional travel is approval from Barbados’ Civil Aviation Authority.
